Hello everyone! This is going to be a short weekly because I
really don’t enjoy writing emails.
So last week I was called to train another missionary (see attached letter). So
that was kind of cool. It's been 10 months since I first trained Elder
Robinson. I shortly found out later that the missionary I am training is an
English Elder and has had no prior Spanish training to do the work in a
different language. His name is Elder Ison. He is from North Carolina. He likes
soccer, piano, and math. He went to BYU for a year and then came out on his
mission. He's super cool. I have enjoyed the short time we have had together so
far. He is willing to work hard and be obedient. So that's cool.
We aren't really working with anyone yet, we are just working
and waiting for someone we talk with to show some sort of interest.
Later,
Dear Elder Garrett Michael

Congratulations on your calling as trainer of a new missionary in the Oregon Salem Mission! This honor and responsibility comes only to those who can be entrusted to such an important responsibility. Perhaps no other calling in your mission will be as important and have such an eternal consequence as this one.
As a trainer of a new missionary, you will need to help your new missionary adjust to mission life. You will oversee their continued study and preparation as outlined in, “The First 12 Weeks”, the Church's in-field training manual for new missionaries and their trainers. You and your new missionary will be given an extra hour of study time in order to build upon their experience in the Missionary Training Center.
Your example in planning, finding, teaching and baptizing of individuals will set the standard for your new missionary's entire mission. You will be asked to study the scriptures, receive revelation, and teach your new missionary from Preach My Gospel and the Missionary handbook. This calling will require maturity and a commitment to excellence in all you do.
Your parents and priesthood leaders will also receive a copy of this letter. I would like them to know of the sincere gratitude Sister Wilde and I have for you. Parents and priesthood leaders can be proud of the type of missionary you have become.
The call to leadership is best done by example. Your new missionary will watch you and will desire to become like you. This will require you to be faithful, diligent and most importantly, loving in all you do. This call to train is one that comes through inspiration and qualification from your Father in Heaven. It is a sacred trust given to you, from Him. Know also of my trust and gratitude for your willingness to accept and fulfill this most important calling.
With Love,
President Wilde
